Surface Interval
Underwater video colour and dive reels, for iPhone
Free, with a daily cap of two reels. iPhone, iOS 18 and later. No account, no ads, no analytics.
Underwater video comes back blue. A dive also comes back as forty minutes of footage that nobody, including you, is going to watch.
Surface Interval does both jobs on the phone: it puts the red back, and it cuts the dive down to one reel with music under it. You choose how long the reel is. That is the only choice there is.
What it does
- Colour that is measured, not guessed. Every video is read and corrected for what the water actually took — shallow, mid, deep or night, decided from the footage rather than from a preset you pick by eye.
- It knows when to do nothing. Footage a camera already corrected is recognised and left alone, so it is never corrected twice.
- The reel makes itself. The moments worth keeping are found, trimmed, left in the order they were shot, dissolved between and scored with one of 28 built-in tracks. From 30 seconds to 3 minutes.
- iCloud footage is streamed, not downloaded. A 4K original never has to come down to the phone before it can be used.
- Vertical and horizontal stay apart. They go into separate folders, so a reel never mixes the two.
- An interrupted reel carries on. A phone call or a hot phone costs you the shot it was on, not the whole render.
- Folders per dive day, renamed to the site you dived.
What it does not do
No account. No sign-in. No ads, no analytics, and no network call of its own — nothing you shoot leaves the phone. Your videos are read where they already sit and are never copied anywhere. Reels are saved to Photos at 1080p.
Surface Interval is free, with a daily cap of two reels, each with a small watermark in the corner. For extensive use there is a subscription, Week or Year, or Lifetime paid once: bought in the app, it lifts the cap and lets you turn the watermark off.
Works with
DJI Osmo Action, GoPro, Insta360, iPhone — anything that writes an ordinary video file. Read from Photos, or from a card reader through Files.
