Surface Interval — underwater video colour and dive reels
Last updated: 22 September 2026
Surface Interval collects nothing. This document exists because Apple requires every app to have one (App Store Review Guideline 5.1.1(i)), not because there is much to disclose.
What is collected
Nothing. There is no account, no sign-in, no analytics, no advertising, no crash reporting and no third-party code of any kind in this app.
Network access
The app makes no network requests of its own. It contains no networking code at all. Nothing on your iPhone or Mac can leave it through this app, because there is no mechanism by which it could.
One thing looks like network access and is not: a video you keep in iCloud rather than on the device. When the app needs to read such a video, it asks Apple's Photos framework for it, and Photos fetches it from your own iCloud account over your own connection. That is a conversation between your device and Apple, on your behalf, in the same way the Photos app itself works. Nothing is sent to us, and there is no "us" to send it to.
A purchase works the same way. Buying or restoring Week, Year or Lifetime is done by Apple's App Store on your behalf. The app learns only which of the three is in force; it never sees your payment details, and nothing is sent to us.
The optional music works the same way. Eight tracks are built into the app; the other 45 come from Apple's servers, delivered by Apple as it delivers an app update, and only when you tap Download in Settings. Nothing is sent to us.
Your videos
Your videos stay where they are. The app reads them in place — in your photo library, or in files on a card, a drive or a folder you pick — and never copies them into itself. It never deletes anything you shot.
What it writes is what you ask it for: a reel saved to your photo library, with your permission, at the moment you tap save. Nothing else is written anywhere outside the app's own storage on your iPhone or Mac.
What is stored, and where
- The list of videos you added, and the folders you put them in — names, dates, and what the app measured about the colour of each one.
- The reels you have made, and their settings.
- Working files while a reel is being made: frames, thumbnails and the pieces of the reel itself.
- An export record — what the app did, how long it took, and what went wrong when something did.
- Your settings.
- Which purchase is in force, if any, and when reels were made over the last two days, for the daily cap.
All of it is written inside the app's own storage on your iPhone or Mac. It is included in your device's backup, so restoring a new device brings it back. If you back up to iCloud, Apple's backup includes it — that is between you and Apple, and it is how your data follows you to a new device. Nothing is sent to us.
Deleting it
Settings › Clear the working files removes the frames, thumbnails and reel pieces. Deleting the app removes everything else with it. Neither leaves a copy anywhere, because no copy was ever made.
Music
The music that goes under a reel is from Pixabay under its Content License. Eight tracks are built into the app; the other 45 are downloaded from Apple only when you ask for them in Settings. No listening of any kind is recorded or reported.
Children
The app is a tool for editing your own dive video and is not directed at children. It collects no personal information from anyone, of any age.
Changes
If this policy ever changes, the updated version appears here with a new date. Since the app collects nothing, any change is likely to be a clarification rather than a new disclosure.
